EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a structured psychological therapy designed to help the brain process distressing experiences and memories.

How EMDR can help

After a distressing experience, memories can sometimes remain emotionally intense and easily triggered. EMDR aims to support the brain’s natural processing system so that the memory can become less disturbing and feel more firmly in the past.

  • Traumatic or distressing experiences
  • Anxiety and panic linked to difficult memories
  • Intrusive memories or reminders
  • Phobias and fears
  • Negative beliefs connected with past experiences

What to expect

EMDR begins with assessment and preparation. We will discuss your experiences, what you would like help with and ways of keeping the work manageable. Processing is introduced when it is appropriate to do so.

Is EMDR right for me?

EMDR is not automatically the right approach for everyone. An initial conversation provides an opportunity to consider your circumstances, goals and whether EMDR may be suitable.

Healing does not mean forgetting what happened. It can mean being able to remember without feeling as though it is happening all over again.
